Although models don't literally use their voices when theyÕre walking down the runway, Mathieu emphasized how much the entire Pyer Moss production was designed to make a deafeningly loud statement. ÒWith the music and the words that were being sung and just the whole air in that room, it was just so loud,Ó he says. ÒAnd I think itÕs very rare at times in fashion, and also the media in general, for people of color to be represented in the right way. ThereÕs always just a lack of proper representation of who we are and what we're capable of and what we can do.Ó But with designers like Pyer Moss's Kerby Jean-Raymond and models like Mathieu leading the charge, it won't be the case for much longer.
